'Golden' is a splendid selection of Ammannia pedicellata that stands out by its very bright, greenish yellow to golden underwater foliage, contrasting with the dark red stem. The wild type that was long known under the name Nesaea pedicellata is native to East Africa and occurs above and under water in ponds and swamps. Ammannia pedicellata 'Golden' has up to 5 cm long, narrow submerged leaves that are arranged in pairs or whorls along the upright stems. The shoots grow up to lengths above 30 cm.
As well as regular Ammannia pedicellata, the Golden Nesaea grows best with strong lighting, CO2 injection, macro- and micronutrient supply, also via the bottom, and rather soft water. The optimum temperature range lies between 22 and 28 °C. The shoots are best planted with some space to each other so that the lower leaves get enough light. Too much shadow may cause blackening and shedding of lower leaves. As well as other stem plants, this Ammannia is easily propagated by cuttings of shoot tips and side shoots.
As a group in the midground to background of not too small aquariums, Ammannia pedicellata 'Golden' provides a striking, bright colour accent. It contrasts well with dark green, dark red and finely textured plants.
