Galaxea:

Quick Stats:

-          Lighting: Low to Medium

-          Flow: Moderate

-          Placement: Bottom to Middle

-          Feeding: Photosynthetic

-          Aggressiveness: Aggressive

Characteristics:  Galaxea have a very fuzzy or furry appearance. Underneath the tentacles the coral actually has a very spiky and sharp skeleton and when the tentacles are retracted it is possible to see how each polyp extends from the base.

Colour: The most common colours seen are green and or gold tentacles. Both those these varieties fluoresce strongly under actinic lighting.

Lighting: These corals appreciate a more subdued lighting from low to medium, about 50 – 100 PAR.

Flow: They require moderate flow to ensure that debris doesn’t get trapped between their spiky skeleton and they look particularly stunning when their tentacles sway in the current.

Placement: They can be placed any where from the bottom of the tank to the middle, preferably on the rockwork with lots of space between them and neighbouring corals as they have very long sweeper tentacles that emerge at night.

Feeding: Galaxea are photosynthetic and there is anecdotal evidence that they accept powdered and liquid foods.
