Hygrophila pinnatifida is a beautiful and interesting plant originating from India. Its fern like leaves contain brown/green tone on the surface with a distinctive burgundy red underneath. Red colouring becomes more intense under strong light and elevated CO2. Hygrophila pinnatifida is relatively easy to culture and it spreads well once adapted to the tank environment. It does not need to be planted in the substrate as it can also grow well on driftwood or rocks.
This plant propagates by producing runners or you can simply pinch the tops and replant. Once adapted to the tank environment, Hygrophila pinnatifida can grow at a moderate to fast pace and will require regular trimming.
